About DirectHome

What is DirectHome?

DirectHome is an online property listings marketplace in Kenya for rentals and sales. It connects property seekers with owners, landlords, authorised agents and developers.

How DirectHome works
How does DirectHome work?

Search available listings, open a property to check its details, and contact the lister through the enquiry options. Listers create an account, complete the required verification and submit their property for review.

Is DirectHome a real estate agency?

No. DirectHome provides a marketplace for property advertisements and enquiries. It does not act as your estate agent, conveyancer or a party to your property transaction.

Who can use DirectHome?

Property seekers can browse, while owners, landlords, authorised agents and developers can apply to publish listings. Transaction-related accounts and listing publishers must meet the platform's age and verification requirements.

Does DirectHome operate across Kenya?

Yes. DirectHome supports property discovery and listings across Kenya. Availability depends on the properties currently published in each area.

Finding a Property

How do I search for property in Kenya on DirectHome?

Choose Rent or Buy, enter a location and apply filters such as property type, bedrooms, furnishing and price. Open a listing to see its photos, description and contact options.

Explore rentals
Can I search by town, county or nearby location?

Yes. Search uses location names and administrative information, with geographic proximity where the place can be resolved. Try a town, county, area or nearby landmark.

What happens if there are no properties in my exact search location?

When the searched location can be resolved and there are no local matches, DirectHome can show the nearest available properties that still match your other filters. A message explains when nearby results are being shown; if nothing matches, the page shows an empty result.

Can I search for properties near Mombasa, Nairobi or other areas?

Yes. Enter your preferred location and keep your Rent or Buy and other filters selected. Nearby results depend on the available listings and whether the location can be resolved.

Renting

How do I find a house or apartment for rent in Kenya?

Open Rent and select a location, property type and budget. Compare the listing details, confirm availability with the lister and arrange a viewing before committing.

Find property for rent
Can I contact the property owner directly?

You can contact the person authorised to list the property through its enquiry options. This may be the owner or an agent; private contact details may require the lister's approval.

Does DirectHome charge tenants to search for rental property?

No. Browsing and searching rental listings is free. Any rent, deposit or other terms proposed by a landlord should be checked separately before you agree.

How can I check whether a rental listing is genuine?

Arrange a viewing, confirm who owns or is authorised to represent the property, and check the proposed tenancy terms. Treat unusually low prices and pressure to pay immediately as warning signs; a platform badge is not a guarantee.

Buying Property

How do I find property for sale in Kenya?

Open Buy and filter by location, property type, budget and other preferences. Use the listing to start an enquiry and carry out independent checks before making an offer.

Explore property for sale
Can I buy land through DirectHome?

You can discover advertised land and plots and contact their listers. The purchase, ownership checks and legal transfer take place between the parties with their professional advisers.

Can foreigners use DirectHome to find property in Kenya?

Yes. International users can browse and enquire about Kenyan property. Eligibility to acquire a particular property depends on applicable rules and the property itself; obtain independent Kenyan legal advice before purchasing.

Does DirectHome verify legal ownership of property?

DirectHome does not guarantee title or legal ownership. Identity, listing and location checks have specific purposes and do not replace independent ownership and authority checks.

What checks should buyers make before purchasing property?

Confirm the seller's identity and authority, the property's title and boundaries, and any restrictions or outstanding claims with qualified local professionals. Inspect the property and have the contract and payment arrangements reviewed before committing.

Listing a Property

How do I list a property on DirectHome?

Create an account, verify your email and complete the required lister onboarding. Add accurate property details, location and media, then submit the listing for review.

Read the listing guide
Can owners list properties directly?

Yes. Owners can request listing capability and advertise property they are entitled to offer. Required identity verification and listing review still apply.

Can agents list properties?

Yes. Agents can apply and complete the relevant verification steps. They must have authority to represent every property they advertise.

Can developers advertise new developments?

Yes. Developers can advertise property or developments they own or are authorised to represent. Use accurate descriptions and clearly explain what is completed or still under development.

Can I upload photos, video and PDF brochures?

Yes. The property editor supports photos, video and PDF property documents within its displayed format and size limits. Public brochures should contain only information you intend to share with property seekers.

Can I edit my listing after publishing?

Yes. Open your listing in My Listings to manage its details and media. Changes remain subject to the platform's moderation and publication rules.

Open My Listings
Can I promote my existing listing?

Yes. Open Promote or Manage promotions on the listing card to see available upgrades and current promotion details. Promotion eligibility and the displayed terms still apply.

Owners & Landlords

How can DirectHome help landlords find tenants?

DirectHome gives landlords a place to advertise rentals with property details and media. Interested users can enquire directly, while the landlord remains responsible for viewings, applicant checks and tenancy agreements.

Can I hide my exact property location?

Yes. Use the private or approximate location setting so the public map shows an approximate area. The exact saved position remains protected.

Can I choose to show my exact location publicly?

Yes. The exact-public setting lets you make the saved property pin visible to visitors. Check the setting before publishing because it changes what anyone can see.

How do interested users request exact property location?

A signed-in user can send a private-access request from the listing. The lister can approve or decline it and can revoke access later.

How long does approved exact-location access last?

Approved private exact-location access lasts 48 hours and belongs to the approved requester account. It can expire or be revoked; it is not transferable to other users.

Agents & Developers

Can estate agents use DirectHome?

Yes. Property agents in Kenya can apply for verification and list properties they are authorised to represent. Approval does not remove their responsibility to provide accurate information.

Create an account
Can property developers advertise developments?

Yes. Property developers can use listings to present homes, plots or developments with photos and supporting public documents. Claims about completion, availability and approvals should be accurate.

How can DirectHome help me reach international buyers and investors?

Published listings can be viewed online by people in Kenya and abroad. Clear descriptions, useful photos and accurate locations help visitors assess a property, but enquiries and sales are not guaranteed.

Can an agent manage multiple property listings?

Yes. My Listings provides access to an account's listings and their available actions. Agents should keep each property's availability and details current.

Identity & Verification

Why does DirectHome ask for identity verification?

Identity checks help confirm that listers are real people and reduce impersonation and fake accounts. They also support age and listing eligibility checks; searching for property does not require an ID upload.

What documents are required?

The current standard flow asks for a supported government-issued ID photo and a selfie. Follow the upload form's document, image-quality and format instructions.

Why do you ask for an ID photo and selfie?

The ID and selfie help the verification administrator assess whether the applicant matches the submitted identity. They are used for verification and fraud prevention, not as public listing photos.

Who can see my ID and selfie?

Only authorised DirectHome administrators responsible for verification can access these private documents. They are not shared with landlords, buyers, agents or other users.

Read the Privacy Policy
How long are identity documents stored?

ID and selfie files are scheduled for deletion 90 days after verification is completed. An active fraud, abuse, dispute, security or legal case may require longer retention; minimal verification and audit metadata can remain. Deleted files may remain temporarily in encrypted backups until those backups are overwritten.

Are identity documents public?

No. Identity documents are kept in private storage and served through protected access checks. They do not appear on your public profile or property listing.

Safety & Trust

How does DirectHome help reduce fake listings?

DirectHome uses lister verification, listing moderation and reporting tools to help address misuse. These checks reduce some risks but cannot establish that every claim or transaction is genuine.

What should I do if I suspect a fraudulent listing?

Use the listing's report action and describe the concern with relevant facts. Avoid sending money or sensitive information while you are unsure, and contact support if you need help.

Contact DirectHome
What happens when a property is reported?

Reports enter a moderation process for review. Depending on the concern, a listing may be hidden or restricted while the matter is assessed, and the administrator can take an appropriate action.

Does DirectHome guarantee a property or transaction?

No. DirectHome does not guarantee ownership, property condition, availability or the safety of a transaction. Carry out your own checks and obtain qualified advice where needed.

Property Location & Privacy

Why are some property locations approximate?

The lister has chosen to keep the exact position private. The public map helps you understand the locality without publishing the private property pin.

Does the approximate area contain the real property location?

The approximate map is designed to place the saved property position inside its privacy circle. It represents an area, not a street address; accuracy also depends on the position supplied by the lister.

Can an owner show the exact property location publicly?

Yes. A lister can select exact-public visibility for the property. With that setting, the public map and Google Maps link use the saved exact position.

Can I request the exact location from the owner?

Yes. Sign in and use the listing's private-access request. The lister decides whether to approve it; an approximate public Google Maps link uses only the public approximate centre.

Payments & Promotions

Is it free to list property on DirectHome?

Standard property listing is currently free, subject to verification and moderation. Optional promotions are separate paid upgrades, with the current price and terms shown before checkout.

What are paid property promotions?

Promotions are optional upgrades for an existing listing, such as Top of List, Featured / Homepage and Verified Listing. Check the available option, duration and eligibility on your listing's upgrade page.

What is Top of List?

Top of List gives an eligible listing promoted placement according to the search ordering rules while the upgrade is active. It does not guarantee enquiries or override the visitor's search filters.

What is Featured / Homepage Promotion?

This promotion makes an eligible published listing available in the homepage Featured Properties section during its active period. The listing must continue to meet public visibility rules.

What is Verified Listing?

Verified Listing is a listing-review upgrade with its own verification status. Payment alone does not mean approval, and the label is not a guarantee of title or transaction safety.

How do I pay for a promotion?

Open My Listings, choose Promote or Manage promotions, select an available upgrade and follow checkout. Successful payment is confirmed by the payment provider before the applicable activation or review process.

Manage listing promotions
Does DirectHome support Stripe?

Yes. Stripe/card is the currently enabled customer payment method for promotions when checkout is available. Check the payment result and promotion status in your account.

Will M-Pesa be available?

M-Pesa is currently shown as Coming soon and is disabled for customer checkout. No launch date is promised; use the payment methods offered at checkout.

Accounts & Registration

How do I create a DirectHome account?

Open registration, enter your details and follow the steps. Verify your email using the message sent to you, then complete any additional onboarding needed for your chosen activity.

Register with DirectHome
Why do I need to confirm that I am 18 or over?

DirectHome requires adults for transaction-related accounts and publishing property. Lister verification also checks the relevant age requirement.

Can I change my account details?

Yes. Use your account profile and settings for the available changes. Some verified details may require administrator review to preserve the accuracy of your verification.

Open your profile
Can I delete my account?

Yes. You must re-authenticate to request account deletion. Where there is no blocker, the account is restricted and deletion or anonymisation is scheduled after 30 days; unresolved obligations or retention holds can require review.

Open account settings
What happens to my information after account deletion?

Profile information is deleted or anonymised through the deletion process. Some security, fraud, dispute and audit records may be retained where required, and backups follow their retention schedule.
